the ashes are applied:
Remember that thou art dust, and to dust thou shalt return. Genesis Chapter 3 verse 19
Turn away from sin and be faithful to the Gospel. Mark Chapter 1 verse 15
Lent is a time of preparation. I don't know about you but I always feel that I need these times of preparation that punctuate the Christian Calendar. My life can be squeezed by so many different agendas that I need to remind myself who I actually am.Repent, and hear the good news. Mark Chapter 1 verse 15
In Lent I have traditionally tried to fast (give up something) from Chocolate and also take up a Lenten discipline; for me it will be reading a Christian book. This year I am reading 'Surprised By Hope' by N T Wright. I believe that we can observe Lent i a umber of different ways. The important thing is really the fact that we do something intentionally, with purpose.
As we began Lent in the parish one theme we will be journeying through Lent with is the 'I AM' sayings of Jesus. We began with Jesus reminding us that He is the Bread of Heaven. He is the one who sustains us.
The other aspect was considering the challenge of our Lenten disciplines and how it challenges us in relation to our obedience to the call of God. To help us we considered the obedience and call of Mary.
I hope that this Lent you will be challenged and encouraged, and on reaching Easter cry with a renewed faith: 'Christ is Risen! He is Risen indeed, Allelujah!'
